James Ray Dodgen, 90, of Greenwood, passed away Friday, February 2, 2024, at Magnolia Manor.
He was a son of the late James M. Dodgen and Emmie Sue Witt Dodgen. James was a man of hard work dedicated over 50 years of service working diligently at Greenwood Mills where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club. A true pillar of his community, James was always there to lend a helping hand and to participate actively in several organizations. He was a proud masonic member of Mathew's Lodge 358, where he was a Past Master and a Past District Deputy Grand Master, a member of Greenwood York Rite Masons and the Hejaz Shrine Temple where he served as the Captain of the Clown for many years. Additionally, James was a member of the Matthew's Lions Club for many years, contributing his time and efforts to various projects. Outside of his involvement with organizations, in James younger years he held a passion for the outdoors where he spent time doing yard work, gardening, hunting and fishing. He was a member of Greenville Presbyterian Church and a former member of Callie Self Memorial Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Grover Dodgen, sister, Elizabeth Rush and grandson, Patrick Dodgen.
Surviving are his children, Ray Dodgen (Becky), Phillip "Phil" Dodgen and Rena Allen (Tom); longtime friend and soul mate, Linda Sanders; grandchildren, Andy Allen (Jamie), Annie Latham (Mike) and Kevin Dodgen (Meagan); and great grandchildren, Jered Robinson, Rylee Latham, Paul Dodgen, Bella Dodgen and Gray Dodgen.
Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday at Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Donovan Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens with Masonic Rites.
Pallbearers will be members of Matthew's Masonic Lodge.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1-2pm at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
