Obituary

James Claude King, 79, of McCormick, widower of Sarah Fuller King, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2025 at his home.

Born in McCormick, SC on June 26, 1945, James was a son of the late John Willie King, Sr. and Ruth Mahaley Wideman King. He was a beloved husband, son, father, brother, and grandfather. As a devoted family man, James cherished every moment spent with his loving wife, Sarah; children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He ensured that they never went without and instilled in them the values of hard work and honesty. He proudly carried his name "Papa" very highly.

James graduated from McCormick High School and spent an impressive 33 years as a mechanic at McCormick Mills and Monsanto. Renowned for his work ethic, he not only provided for his family but also instilled in them the values of determination and integrity. Those who worked alongside him fondly remember his nickname, "Ewok" that he earned in the '80s when "Star Wars" hit the scene. It was a testament to his joyful spirit and sense of humor. Following his retirement, he didn't slow down; he took on a new role as a driver at the senior center, always eager to lend a hand and share a smile with those he served.

James was a simple man with an honest heart. He had an enduring passion for restoring classic cars, most notably his beloved 1955 Chevy. His love for vintage firearms and woodworking showcased his diverse interests and talents.

He is survived by his children, Janice King and Michael King (Tina); sister, Betty Ruth; brother, Jackson Ray "Butch" King; grandchildren, Mallory King and Brandon King (Brandi) and great grandchildren, Alice and Kyrie.
