James Vernon Sheppard, 72, of Hodges, husband of Natalie "Sissie" Simpson Sheppard, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2025, at his home.
Born in Greenwood, he was the son of the late Vernon Sheppard and Mary Lou Hall Powell and son-in-law to Vangie & Jim Roark and the late Nathan Simpson, Jr. and Pat Powell. James proudly dedicated over 40 years of his career to Carolina Pride. His hard work and commitment to his job were matched only by his passion for life outside of work. A devoted fan of the Carolina Gamecocks, he enjoyed sharing game days with friends and family and had a deep appreciation for NASCAR and often spent weekends cheering for his favorite drivers. Most importantly, James treasured the moments spent with his beloved family, creating lasting memories that will be cherished forever. He attended Lake View Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jason Sheppard; sisters, Brenda Gayle Avery, Polly Ann Lawter and Cathy Jean Murray; and brother-in-law, Harold Doolittle.
Surviving in addition to his beloved wife of 34 years are his children, Jamey Sheppard (Amanda) of Wisconsin, Jennifer Sheppard Gillion, Julie Latham Brewster, (Reggie), Brittney Harrill (Scott) and Shelly Sheppard Moss (Jacob); grandchildren, Tyler (Selena), Tripp, Amara (Drew), Madison, Gabe, Gabi, Nathan (Elizabeth), Lucas, Gavin, Lila Jo, Easton, Brayden, Conner and Mila Kate; great grandchildren, Aedyn, Paisley, Maverick, Christian, Evelyn, Jace, Maci Rae and Myla; special niece, Bridgette Murray; special great niece, Blaire Stargel; sister, Alice Faye Sheppard Doolittle; sisters-in-law, Vanesa Mountz (Sam), Tammy Johnson, Kim Morris (Dude) and Alison Webb; and brothers-in-law, Chris Roark (Sissy), Marshall Avery and Ray Murray.
Services will be held at 2 pm Monday, February 10, 2025, at Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark Lowe, Rev. Charles Caldwell and Rev. Eric Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Gabe Quarles, Gavin Quarles, Nathan Pennington, Tyler Gillion, Tim Gillion, Brandy Murrah, Kade Berry and Ethan Joyner.
The family will receive friends before the service at the funeral home from 1-2pm.
