Obituary

Jane Brown Jones, 74, of Greenwood, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Born on November 3, 1950, in Royston, Georgia, Jane was the daughter of the late George and Gracell Brown. She found her calling early on, earning a nursing degree from Lander College. For many years, she was a fixture at Self Regional Hospital, where she was known as an amazing and dedicated nurse, instructor, and mentor. She retired in 2020, but her legacy of care and compassion lives on in the countless lives she touched.

Jane's family was her world. She was the best "Nana" ever to her beloved grandchildren and was always happiest when she was with them. A woman with a true servant's heart, Jane's kindness extended to all creatures great and small. She was an avid animal lover who rescued and cared for countless cats, dogs, squirrels, and rabbits. In her quiet moments, she loved to work crossword puzzles, cross-stitch, crochet, read, fish, and bake. She found her greatest peace at the beach.

Jane is survived by her devoted husband of 50 years, Danny Jones; her daughter Sally Montgomery (Bee); her sons John Jones (Jennifer) and Thomas Jones; and her grandchildren Sam Fair, Zoey Montgomery, Campbell, Miriam, Hazel-Marie, and Jakob Jones. She also leaves behind her bonus grandchildren Justin Montgomery (Hannah) and Brady Montgomery and their four children; her sister Brenda Phillips; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, George Lee Brown.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Nancy Wicker and the staff at Hospice House of Greenwood, especially to Jane's oncology nurse and loyal friend, Kimbrell Freeman, for her outstanding and personalized care. They are also thankful for the compassionate team at the Self Regional Cancer Center, including Dr. Robin Stone, Dr. John Konsek, Dr. Michael Kilburn, Dr. John Cole, Dr. Joanna Sadurski, and Dr. Clint Wood. A special thank you is also given to Jane's best friends, Margie Mayo and Cynthia Hedrick, who were a constant source of love and support.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jane's memory to Hospice House of Greenwood, Lander University (Jane Jones Service in Healthcare Scholarship), or a charity of one's choice.
