Janice Esther Gunderson, 99, at rest May 11, 2017 at Hospice House in Greenwood, SC.
Janice Gunderson was born on February 27, 1918 in Ottawa, IL to John and Marie (Cray) Anweiler. She married Silas Laverne Gunderson of Marseilles, IL in Davenport, IA on April 8,1939. They moved to Marseilles, IL and hand built their home from the ground up and lived there for 67 years. She moved to Abbeville, SC after Silas passed away to live with her son Gary and his wife Margaret Ann.
Janice is survived by two additional sons, Ronald (Peg) of Marseilles, IL and Brian (Donna) of Greenwood, SC. Also, seven grandchildren, Craig, Eric, Aaron, Curtis, Leslie, Krysta Christensen and Kari Hall; nineteen great grandchildren and a great, great grandchild. She is also survived by three brothers and one sister, Harvey Anweiler of Flemington, NJ, Bob Anweiler of Schreveport, LA, Elmer Anweiler of Marrero, LA and Helen Sampson of Ottawa, II. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Albin, Betty Fancher, Shirley Hartshorn and two brothers Clarence and Joe Anweiler.
Janice exemplifies the hardworking, resourceful and values driven characteristics of the greatest generation. Her entire life revolved around being a loving homemaker for her immediate and extended family. She loved to garden and was known for growing some of the best home grown tomatoes in Illinois. Janice also loved to crochet, making gifts for many people including afghans, scarfs, and Christmas ornaments.
A memorial service to celebrate Janice's life will be conducted at 4 pm on Saturday at Harley Funeral Home Chapel.
