Janice Matthews Herring, 81, of Greenwood, widow of Harry Whitner Herring, Jr. passed away Thursday, July 18, 2024 at Self Regional Medical Center.
Janice was a beloved mother, grandmother, and dedicated matriarch. Born on October 25, 1942, in Greenwood, SC, she was a daughter of the late Charles Henry "Chug" Matthews and Ethel Bradford Matthews. Janice owned and operated her own cleaning business, where she was known for her meticulous work ethic. Those who knew her best describe her as a "precious" lady, a rare gem who brought warmth and love to all who knew her. In her free time, Janice enjoyed watching crime shows, always intrigued by the mystery and suspense they offered.
She is survived by her daughters, Dody Mobley (Mike) and Deena Herring; son, Daniel Herring; sisters, Betty Burgess (Bob) and Gary Collins; sisters-in-law, Sue Matthews and Gloria Tiller; brother-in-law, Bill Herring; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; her "pup pup" Aster; and many nieces and nephews that she loved as well.
In addition to her parents, "Chug' and Ethel and husband, Harry, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Henry Matthews "Chuggie" and David Matthews and brothers-in-law, Tom Collins and Ike Tiller.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens with Pastor Kelly King officiating.
