Joseph Dimaggio "J.D." Butler, 83, of Greenwood, widower of Betty Jean Fain Butler, passed away Friday, December 20, 2024.

Born in McCormick, he was a son of the late James Oscar Butler and Sudie Wideman Butler. J.D. retired from Greenwood Mills, Mathew Plant and was a member of South Greenwood Assembly.

A proud Shriner Mason and former Master Mason of Mathews Lodge 358, J.D. embodied the principles of brotherhood and service. He was always there for everyone, offering support and kindness without hesitation. J.D.'s passion for life was evident in everything he did. He loved spending time outdoors, particularly tending to his lawn and ensuring it was perfectly kept. He found joy at the racetrack, as he loved watching NASCAR and attending races.

J.D. had a remarkable ability to bring people together. He will be remembered as a devoted family man, who cared for his family tremendously. His generous heart brightened the lives of all who knew him. Whether riding around on his golf cart at the beach or simply lending a helping hand, J.D.'s spirit will live on through his loved ones.

He is survived by his children, Dale Butler, Dustin Butler, and Lindsey Ramey; sister, Sue Elizabeth Finch; four grandchildren, Rev. Amy Laye, Nolan Ramey, Angela Boswell, and Eddie Laye and Eddie's children, Litte Ed, DeMarcus, and Nate.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rollyn Jean Smith; six brothers, and his chihuahua, "Poppie".
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Pastor Carroll Harrison officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Butler, Ricky Butler, Sammy Butler, David Goodman, John Dorn, and Doug Hill.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

The family will be at the home of his son, Dale, 1722 Highway 246 S, Greenwood, SC 29646.
