Obituary

Jeanne T. McElhaney, 96, of 1110 Marshall Road, Greenwood, SC, died May 5, 2019 at Hospice House.

Jeanne was born October 8, 1922 in Sharon, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Edward and Leonora Taylor. She was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a B.S. degree in nursing and health. While raising three small children, Jeanne returned to college to obtain her B.S. degree in education. This career change enabled her to have a school schedule similar to her children, as family was a priority for her. She spent many years working for the Cincinnati Public Schools in lower income schools as a primary grade teacher.

Jeanne was married to the love of her life, William (Mac) McElhaney for 72 years. After Jeanne and Mac both retired, they moved to Venice, Florida, where they enjoyed life, staying busy with social activities and volunteering. In 1997 they moved to Wesley Commons in Greenwood, South Carolina where they embraced the small town living and the close knit community. Jeanne's husband, William, proceeded her in death in March, 2017. Jeanne was an intelligent, kind and compassionate woman with a gentle spirit.

She is survived by three children, Stephen (Phyllis) McElhaney, Timothy McElhaney, and Deborah Folkman; two grandchildren, Jonathan (Heather) McElhaney and Anne (Adam) Hawkridge; and four great grandchildren, Taylor McElhaney, Finley McElhaney, Megan Hawkridge, and Sean Hawkridge.

At Jeanne's wishes, a private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Hospice House (Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont), 408 W. AlexanderAvenue, Greenwood, SC 29646.
