Obituary

Jeffery “Jeff” Brian Crisp, 44, of Ninety Six, husband of April Evans Crisp, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2026, at Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont, after a courageous battle with glioblastoma.

Born on January 21, 1982, in Greenwood, he was the son of Eugene and Yvonne Buff Canfield.

Jeff dedicated his life to public service and to the well-being of others, leaving a legacy that will forever be etched in the hearts of all who knew him. He proudly served as Chief of Police for Piedmont Technical College until his retirement, where his leadership and dedication made a profound difference. He also devoted 17 years to the Greenwood City Police Department, faithfully protecting and serving his community, including serving as a SWAT commander. In addition, Jeff gave 28 years as a volunteer firefighter, including seven years as Chief of the Ninety Six Fire Department, always ready to respond with courage and selflessness.

Jeff earned his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration and was honored with the FBI Trilogy Leadership Award in 2022. He balanced his professional responsibilities with a deep love for serving others, working on projects, fitness, enjoying music, and spending time outdoors.

Above all, Jeff’s greatest pride and accomplishment was his family. He was a devoted husband to April for 20 years (together for 23 years) and a loving father to his sons, Brantley and Landon, who were his world. The time he spent with them was his most treasured gift.

Jeff faced every challenge with a positive outlook, including his battle with glioblastoma. He showed remarkable strength, resilience, and unwavering faith throughout his 18-month fight.

Jeff’s character was defined not only by his service, but by the love and kindness he shared with those around him. In addition to his loving wife, April, of the home, and his parents, Yvonne and Eugene of Greenwood, he is survived by his sister, Nikki Dianne Canfield of Ninety Six; brother, Jimmy Adam Crisp of Ninety Six; half-brother, Jamie Lee Crisp of Mountville; grandmother, Linda Sweat; mother-in-law, Lorraine Evans of Ninety Six; and sisters-in-law, Summer Cooper (Corey) of Greenwood and Tracy Waits of Ware Shoals.

He was preceded in death by his biological father, Jimmy Allen Crisp; his grandmother, Sarah Dow; and his father-in-law, Clarence Wayne Evans.

A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at NewSpring Church, with the Rev. Matt Alley and Rev. Phillip Howle officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be fellow first responders. The family will receive friends from 1:00–3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

In honor of Jeff and his courageous fight, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to Tanner’s Hope Foundation. https://tannershope.org/

Jeff’s life was a testament to service, love, and unwavering strength. He will be remembered as a dedicated public servant, a devoted husband, a proud father, and a loyal friend. Though he is no longer with us, his legacy of bravery and compassion will continue to live on in all who knew and loved him.

“Life is what you make, regardless of the struggles and extreme life-changing events.” – Jeff Crisp
