Jesse Eugene "Gene" Surrett, 82, of Greenwood, passed away Friday, April 11, 2025 at his home.
Born on October 28, 1942, in High Point, NC he was a son of the late William Vernon Surrett and Essie Mae Love Surrett. Gene successfully owned and operated his own painting business. He was not just a skilled craftsman; he was a man of many interests. A dedicated coin, silver, and gold collector, he had an eye for the treasures that many might overlook. Gene also treasured stamps that told stories of far-off places. He was a South Carolina Gamecock fan, always ready to cheer on his team. You could often find him enjoying the melodies of country music, singing along to old hymns, or settling down to watch his favorite old westerns.
He is survived by his children, Jeannie Davis (Tracy), Ronda Gibson (Daniel), Crystal Dixon (Risner Wood), Jesse Eugene Surrett, II (Shae), and Ray Surrett (Alicia); sister, Polly McCuen (Jimmy Ray); brothers, JB Surrett (Linda) and Lewis Surrett; sister-in-law, Nancy Surrett; thirteen grandchildren, and twenty-one great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Adams and brothers, Burrell Surrett, Elmer Surrett, and Odell Surrett.
