Obituary

The world bid a bittersweet adieu to the beloved Jessie McLean O'Neil, who passed away on May 9, 2024, in McCormick, SC at the age of 93. Born in Glasgow, Scotland on January 13, 1931, she was a daughter of the late David and Alexandrina Robertson.

Jessie grew up in Dundee, Scotland in a big stone house surrounded by farms and fields. As a young woman, she trained to be a nurse and said she had lots of boyfriends and parties. In1952 she immigrated across the pond to New York where she met and married the late Robert F. O'Neil in 1954.

She was a beacon of elegance, charm, and grace. Her sister Anne remarked that Jessie's passing was 'the end of an empire', a testament to her unwavering resilience throughout the ups and downs of life.

A true fashionista, Jessie's sense of style was unparalleled, always beautifully dressed from head to toe. She loved entertaining friends and family in her lovely home. Her culinary skills were legendary with full blown dinner parties and perfectly set tables with lively conversation always on the menu.

Those who knew her well including friends she kept up with over the decades loved Jessie for her loyalty and kindness mixed with a strong dose of honesty and a sharp wit. A true Scot who treasured her new home in America, Jessie will be known as "one of a kind", "a joy to be with" and an "absolute legend who lived her life to the fullest".

Left to cherish her memory are her loving children Carolyn, Alison, and Brian O'Neil; her grandson, Jack Chapman (Lauren); granddaughter, Katie Warren (Kyle); sister, Anne Maguire, sister-in-law Lenore Maloney; dear niece, Beverly Luther, along with many other beloved nieces and nephews; and of course Al Dill, who Jessie called her "lover" and soulmate

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Robert F. O'Neil, sister Margaret Garden, sister-in-law Harriet Kuehne, brothers-in-law Dougal Garden, Jack O'Neil, Jimmy Maguire, and Jim Maloney.
