Obituary

James "Jim" Theodore Emerich, 81, of McCormick, husband of Raylene Thomascik Emerich, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2026.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he was a son of Theodore and Regina Toth Emerich. He and his wife, Raylene, resided in Westlake, Ohio before relocating to Savannah Lakes Village in McCormick, South Carolina in 1998.

Jim was a man of profound skill, deep faith, and an even bigger heart. He was known for his unwavering dedication to his family, his community, and his craft. His love for building started at an early age with helping his father build a garage on their property. He volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and also helped many people by building barns, sheds, and other structures. Perhaps his most meaningful contribution was helping to build the Lutheran Church by the Lake, where he was also a member.

A proud Navy veteran who achieved the rank of ETR-3, Jim carried the values of honor and integrity throughout his life. After his military service, he went on to become a skilled maintenance manager at NASA in Ohio, for nearly 30 years, until his retirement.

Jim enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, whether it was boating on serene waters or dancing the night away with friends at square dances or line dances. Above all, Jim was a man of connection. He was an animal lover and possessed a "big heart" that he shared freely with everyone he met. His greatest joy, however, was found in the company of his family and friends. He was a pillar of strength and a source of constant kindness to those closest to him.

In addition to his wife, Raylene of 46 years, he is survived by his daughter, Jacqueline Emerich; grandchildren, Marissa Parks and Steven Parks; great grandchildren, Benjamin and Olivia; and his best friend the cat, Bartholomew Roberts aka Bart.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Greco and brother-in-law, Ross Greco.

Services, with military honors, will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 23, 2026, at the Lutheran Church by the Lake with the Rev. Greg Van Dyke officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service in the ARK.
