James Clifton Gobble, 80, husband of Marilyn Byrd Gobble, died Friday, February 6, 2026 at his home.
Born in Spartanburg, he was a son of the late Charlie Clifton and Mildred Marie Cornelison Gobble. A proud graduate of Spartanburg High School, Jim was a true Gamecock fan and played football at the University of South Carolina, even earning the honor of being a Letterman. In college, he had the thrill of playing in the Shrine Bowl. He actively participated in his community as a past president of the Greenwood Community Theater and was a member of the Greenwood Lodge #358 AFM and Hejaz Shrine.
Jim received his Doctorate degree in Pharmacy from Mercer University Pharmacy School. He spent his career serving the community in retail pharmacy. He co-owned Cambridge Pharmacy with his father-in-law and later worked at Eckerds Drug Store, finishing his career at Piggly Wiggly Pharmacy in Coronaca. Following his retirement, he kept busy working at Harley Funeral Home and Crematory, which he lovingly referred to as his favorite job.Jim loved to travel, enjoyed NASCAR, and shared his passion by working with the Richard Petty Driving School. He was a devoted member of The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, where he found great joy in his faith and friendships.
He is survived by his wife of the home; his daughters, Lynn Gobble Fralick (Lawrence) of Irmo and Lisa Gobble Bissonnette (Ken) of Greenville; his four grandchildren, Elliott Fralick (Mary Alice), Tanner Fralick, Jack Bissonnette and Charlie Bissonnette; a great grandson, Rhett Fralick; and his aunt and uncle, Bob and Laura Gobble of Greensboro, NC.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on March 6, 2026 at The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection with the Rev. Canon Jane Rogers Wilson officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
