James L. �Jimmy� Carruth, 76, of 208 Duncan Avenue, husband of Elizabeth Smith Carruth, died Monday, October 11, 2010 at Self Regional Medical Center. Born in Hartwell, GA, he was a son of the late Charlie and Johnnie Mae Thompson Carruth. He was formerly employed by Greenwood Mills, where he was a member of the Quarter Century Club and was retired from Greenwood School District 50. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Greenwood County Rescue Squad. He was a member of ReaLife Ministries, where he was involved with the Royal Rangers, the Kinsmen Ministries and Helps Ministries. He was twice married, first to the late Ruby Knight Carruth and was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Lou Carruth and a brother, Jack Carruth. Surviving is his wife of the home; daughters, Donna Hilf and her husband, Raymond, Darlene Oliver, and Donna Whatley and her husband, Joel, all of Greenwood; sons, James Keith Carrouth and his wife, Lisa, of Surfside, Tony Smith and his wife, Susan, of Woodruff, and Terry Smith and his wife, April, of Morganton, NC; sisters, Carolyn Ricks and Ann Sprouse, both of Greenwood and Jane Wicker and her husband, Terry, of Hartwell, GA; brothers, Dean Carruth and his wife, Brenda, of Hartwell, GA, Larry Carruth and his wife, Gail, and Ed Carruth and his wife, Elaine, all of Greenwood; 14 grandchildren and a great grandchild.
