James R. �Big Jim� Long, Jr., 65, of 403 Andrews Chapel Road, husband of Judy Vinson Long, died Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Self Regional Medical Center. Born in Greenwood, he was a son of Hazel Newton Long and the late James R. Long, Sr. Jimmy attended school in Ninety Six and retired from the SC Department of Transportation in the communications office. He formerly served as the Upstate Coordinator of Disaster Preparedness and was a former member of the Coronaca Fire Department. He served in the US Navy and was a 25 year member of the Bascomb Lodge #363 A.F.M. He was a member and past president of the Greenwood Shag Club and a past member of the Greenwood Amateur Radio Club. Jimmy was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Surviving is his wife of the home; his daughter, Angela Long Russell and her husband, Michael, of Chesnee; two grandchildren, Austin Rich and Rebecca Rich, both of Lyman, SC; his mother of Ninety Six; a brother, Terry Long and his wife, Maxine, of Leoma, TN and many special extended family members, who he thought of as his own. Pallbearers will be Lamar Davenport, Lonnie Daniels, Scott Silk, Kevin Erwin, Michael Russell, Chris Vinson, Gordon Rich, Ty Goldman and Roger Fain. Honorary escort will be members of the Bascomb Lodge #363 A.F.M and members of Navy Squadron VA-81 along with Mikel Blackwell, Jack Kyle, Darrel Long and Ben Vinson.
