James H. "Jimmy" Thompson, Jr., 77, husband of Sue Yeargin Thompson, died Monday, November 20, 2017.
Born in Greenwood, he was the son of the late James H. Thompson, Sr. and Mary Boyd Thompson. Jimmy was a 1959 graduate of Greenwood High School and received his B.A. degree from Lander College in 1964. He also served in our US Military. He retired from Greenwood Mills after 35 years of service as Vice President of Manufacturing and the General Manager of Greenwood Cotton Insulation, a division of Greenwood Mills. During his time at Greenwood Cotton Insulation, he received a US patent for recycling cotton waste, making cotton insulation fire retardant. He was the owner of JHT Builders and the co-founder and previous co-owner of Montague's Restaurant.
Jimmy was active in the Greenwood YMCA, coaching multiple youth programs. He also served on the committee responsible for building the YMCA on Calhoun Road. He was a member of South Main Street Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife; his daughter, Kelli Thompson Fant and his son, James H. "Jim" Thompson, III, both of Greenwood; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Sims of Waterloo and a brother, David Ray Thompson of Greenwood.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Patsy Turner.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Toby Frost officiating.
Honorary escort will be Ronnie Henderson, Billy Burdette, Sonny Lee, Bo Hopkins, Melvin Driggers and John Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 12 noon to 2 p.m.
Family members are at their respective homes.
