Joan Valter Smith, 77, of 505 Parkland Place Rd, died Saturday, November 09, 2013, at Self Regional Medical Center. Born in Hackensack, NJ, she was a daughter of the late John James Valter and Ila Parker Valter. Joan was a retired bookkeeper and Girl Scout and she attended Temple Baptist Church. Surviving are her children, James Smith (Valerie) of Ninety Six, Joan Hughes (Brad) of Waterloo, Joe Smith of Taylorsville, NC; two sisters, Ila Sperati (Louis) of Greenwood, and Patricia Valter of Raleigh, NC; a brother, J.J. Valter (Clary) of Columbia; four grandchildren, Stacy Hughes of Ninety Six, Elijah Smith of Boston, MA, Luke Smith and Jessica Thompson (Joe) both of Valdese, NC Pallbearers will be Jamie Owens, Gene Owens, Mike Posey, Stacy Hughes, Luke Smith, and Travis Scruggs.
