Joe Deward �J.D.� Gooch, 85, formerly of Greenwood, died Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Agap� Senior Living Center of Laurens. Born in Madison, GA, he was a son of the late Vernon and Flurrie Helton Gooch. He was employed by Greenwood Mills and was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are a son, Joe David Gooch (Donna) of Laurens; two grandchildren, Cherie Scott (Jeremy) of Abbeville and Joe David Gooch Jr. of Greenwood; and two great grandchildren, Taylor and Brandt Scott both of Abbeville. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by five sisters; Effie Callaway, Frances Christian, Florine Culbertson, Nellie Lou Dixon, and Velvie Ogle; two brothers, Homer Lee and L.C. Gooch. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Missions at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church; 499 Chestnut Ridge Rd, Laurens, SC 29360. The family members are at their respective homes.
