Obituary

Johanna Traudel Borner Massey, 82, of 230 Floatella Road, Waterloo, died with her family by her side in Greenwood, SC on Friday, December19, 2014 at Hospice Care of the Piedmont. Born in Klingenthal, Germany on March 26, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Horst and Elly Scherzer Borner. She lost her father when she was 7 years old and was a refugee in West Germany where she met and married an American soldier. Johanna came to the U.S. in 1954 and had three children. She forgot many things but never lost her sense of humor. Johanna was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Community Church in Erlbach, Germany and attended New Beginnings Baptist Church, Waterloo, prior to becoming ill and retired from Greenwood Mills � Mathews Plant. Surviving are two daughters, Johanna Gunter (Travis) of Greenwood and Cheryl Lusk (Phillip) of Donalds; a son, Michael Smith (Lynette) of Leander, TX; a sister, Ursel Leckner of Dusseldorf, Germany; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Borner Muschket of Erlbach, Germany and husbands Ira L. Smith and Julius D. Massey. The family requests that donations be made to a charity of one�s choice or Hospice Care of the Piedmont; 408 West Alexander Avenue, Greenwood 29646. The family members are at their respective homes. The family would like to thank the staff of Emerald Gardens and Hospice Care of the Piedmont for their care and support of their mom and the family.
