John Clarence Banks, 88, of 1814 Bypass 72 NE, widower of Verna Banks, died Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Self Regional Medical Center. Born in Birmingham, AL, he was a son of the late Jimmy and Carrie Ivory Banks. John was a Professional Musician and was a Music Educator. He was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran and was of the Christian faith. Surviving are a niece, Helen Butler of Oakley, CA; several nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews; several great-great nieces and nephews; and a long time musical friend and caregiver, David Meadows of Greenwood. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Dawson, Helen Johnson, and Hattie Harris; and a brother, Ira Harris.
