John Marion Barrett, 78, of 3121 Highway 25 North, Hodges, widower of Lounettie Barrett, died Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Self Regional Medical Center.

Born in Abbeville, he was a son of the late Lonnie Lee Barrett and Allie Mae Ashley Barrett. John was the owner and operator of Barrett's Tire and Barrett's Grocery and Flowers for the past 37 years. He served in the U. S. Army and was of the Baptist faith.

John earned a reputation in the community as an honest and generous man who worked tirelessly to provide for his family and others.

Surviving are two children, Donnie Barrett (Carol Ann) and Amy Barrett Cobb and her husband, Doug; three grandchildren, Kelsey Barrett, Brandon Cobb and Hunter Cobb all of Greenwood; a great grandson, Bryston Barrett of Greenwood; two sisters, Mary Laughlin of Abbeville and Emma Corley of Greenwood; a brother, Sammy Barrett of Hodges; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Claudio Guareschi, the staff at Self Regional Medical Center, and family friend Dr. Chacko John.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Harley Funeral Home Chapel with Ronnie Alexander officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to HospiceCare of the Piedmont, 408 West Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646, Meals on Wheels, 111 Reynolds Park, Greenwood, SC 29646, or to the charity of one's choice.
