Retired Lieutenant Commander John Marshall Black, 89, of 2261 Montague Avenue Ext., husband of Rosa Lee Brady Duncan Black, died Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Hospice House. Born in Warren, OH, he was a son of the late Wade and Orpha Aylor Black. John was a retired U. S. Navy Pilot having served during WWII and the Pacific Theater with tours in Japan, Philippines and Korea from 1942-1964. He attended Ohio State and was a logistics engineer for various corporations around the world until his retirement in 1979. John was assistant pastor of Life Line Mission Church, which he help build. He was married four times; first to the late Marilyn Langworthy; second to the late Betty Jean Peyton; and third to the late Clara Belle Allman. John was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Black and Wade Black Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are his children: Diane Elaine Crouch (Wayne), Steven Ross Black (Charlene) both of Greenwood, Jerry Kenneth Black (Jennifer) of CA and Randall Marshall Black of FL; step-children: Bill Allman (Susan) of Irmo, Freda Desamaris of MA, Diane Rodgers Lawson (Bruce) of Buffalo, SC, Linda McEntire (Greg) of Pelzer and Jackie Bowling (Ted) of Lancaster; fifteen grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Mike Harrell, James Gambrell, Steve Poulin, Steve McCartney, Chris Rodgers and Terry Taylor. Honorary escort will be Jimmy Stubbs, David Wells and Walter Smith.
