John Buchanan Jr., 88, passed away on August 17, 2026, at Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Community.

Born in Parksville, SC, he was the son of the late John Belton Buchanan Sr. and the late Nellie Dove Buchanan.

John loved the thrill of the game, the peace of nature, and the joy of new places. As a massive Gamecock Football fan, Saturdays in the fall were always the highlight of the year. He found peace and contentment during long days spent fishing, and cherished every opportunity to travel. No place brought him more happiness than the smoky mountains of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, a favorite getaway filled with special memories. John leaves behind a legacy of passion, travel, and unforgettable moments.

He is survived daughters, Kim Kelly (Dennis) and Jackie Ginn; son, John Buchanan III; grandsons, Chad Pruitt (Christie), Ben Kelly (Teresa) and Christopher Fields; granddaughter, Heather Fields.

Along with his parents he is preceded in death by wife, Susie Buchanan and son in law, Tony Ginn.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Greenwood Memorial Gardens Chapel Mausoleum.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Harley Funeral Home. Burial will follow the service.
