John Robert Capozzi, 90, of Greenwood, husband of Norma Egbert Capozzi, passed away Sunday, October 27, 2019 at Emerald Gardens.

Born in Ithaca, NY, he was the son of the late Dominic and Frances Bruno Capozzi. John was a U. S. Marine veteran. After his discharge he worked for College Chevrolet in Ithaca, NY as a mechanic and in part sales. He later joined the Ithaca Police Department and attended FBI school. Upon his retirement, after 36 years, he was a Detective Sergeant.

John was an avid bowler and bowled in many tournaments. He was a past president of the N.Y. State Bowling Association, an Elks Member and a member of the Retired Police Association.

John and Norma moved to Greenwood in 1998. He enjoyed playing golf with the seniors at Hunters Creek Golf Course for several years where he was known for hitting the ball "straight down the middle". John thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie of the seniors.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Louie Capozzi and Dominic Capozzi.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 69 years are three children, Christine C. Wallace (Peter), Paul A. Capozzi (Cate) and Michael P. Capozzi; a sister, Mary Ann Capozzi; and two grandchildren, Scott and Brian Wallace.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at Harley Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. John McFadden officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
