John Douglas "Doug" Stennett, 83, of Greenwood, widower of Mary Botts Stennett, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2026.
Born on April 21, 1942, in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Albert Stennett and Emma Ruth Jay Stennett.
Doug proudly served as a veteran of the United States Army, honoring his country with commitment. After his service, he began working for Greenwood Mills as a loom fixer. He also taught auto body at the Greenwood Vocational School for many years. He was member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, finding comfort and strength in his faith.
Doug had a special fondness for old cars, appreciating their beauty and history. He also loved spending time fishing, a pastime that brought him peace and joy.
He is survived by his sisters Sandra Stewart, Linda Anderson Rice (Easton), and Alice Lagroon, and his nephew and special buddy, Joseph Albert "Bert" Dodgen.
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his son, John Richard Stennett, a sister, Barbara Smith, and his brothers Bobby Gene Stennett, Marvin B. Stennett, and Jackie Lee Stennett.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Carroll Harrison officiating.
Pallbearers will be Chad Anderson, Brad Anderson, Bert Dodgen, Brady Anderson, Tyler Anderson, and Matt Anderson.
The family will receive friends following the service.
