John Henry Red Cantrell, 62, of 107 Westview Street, husband of Margaret Dianne Hollingsworth Cantrell, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 6, 2014. Born in Clinton, he was a son of Inez Brewington Crawford and the late Willie O. Cantrell. Johnny worked for Greenwood Mills at both the Mathews and Harris Plants. Johnny was a loving, caring, kind and amazing man. He always put the needs of others before his own. He loved his mama, his wife, his children, but most of all he loved his grandchildren, who knew him as Papa. They were his world and he would take them anywhere and everywhere that they wanted to go, attend all of their activities and cheer them on. He enjoyed taking them to the race track and always made time for them no matter what was going on. Auto racing was in his blood he loved racing drag cars with his brothers-in-law, Billy and Sammy, and fixing cars with his sons-in-law, Gregg and Jimmy. He loved and cherished his racetrack family at the Ware Shoals Dragway. He loved the Lord and was a member of Augusta Highway Baptist Church. Left behind to cherish his special memories are his wife of the home; his mother of Greenwood; two daughters, Lynn C. Hastings (Gregg) of Simpsonville and Lisa C. Brashier (Jimmy) of Piedmont; a sister, Linda Rush (Arthur) of Greenwood; a brother, Billy Cantrell, Sr., of Joanna; two brothers-in-law, Billy Hollingsworth (Kathy) and Sammy Hollingsworth (Faye); sister-in-law, Gail McAlister; two grandchildren, Lauren A. Hastings and Christian L. Brashier; his little dog, Peanut, who went with him everywhere; and seven special nieces and nephews.
