Obituary

Johnny E. Rhodes, 67, of 145 Effie Drive, husband of Myra Blum Rhodes, went home to be with Jesus on Monday, June 20, 2011 following a long period of suffering. Born in Newberry, he was the son of the late Talmadge and Edna Taylor Rhodes. He was a graduate of Whitmire High School and Piedmont Technical College, where he received his Associates degree in Electrical Engineering. He retired from Solutia following 40 years of service. Johnny was an active member of North Side Baptist Church and the Faithful Sunday School Class. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman, serving as president of the Long Cane Hunt Club and loved vacationing in Daytona Beach. He also served as president of the Greenwood County Gamecock Club, served on the Board of Directors at the SC Gamecock Club and formerly served on the Board of Directors of the Greenwood Community Theatre. Johnny was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Myra, of the home; three daughters, Taylor Rhodes and Morgan Rhodes, both of the home and Kayce Morris and her husband, Tony, of Ninety Six; two stepdaughters, Amy Truelove and her husband, Jim, and Heather King and her husband, Brian, all of Ninety Six; four grandsons, Gavin Truelove, Landon King, Luke Morris and Kyle Morris; brother-in-law, Leroy Smith of Whitmire and his best friend, Tommy James. He was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Smith and his half sister, Lois Pennington.
