Joseph S. Avery, 82, of 1527 Rock House Road, husband of Pearl Pittman Avery died Saturday, May 08, 2010 at his home. Born in Laurens County, he was a son of the late Ludie and Mary Metts Avery. He was an US Army veteran of the Korea Conflict and was a member of Redemption Baptist Church of Enoree, SC. Surviving in addition to his wife of the home are seven sons: Joey Avery, Jr., David Owens, both of Laurens, Allen Avery, Gene Avery, both of Clinton, Gene Owens, Stevie Owens, both of Greenwood and Carroll Owens of Hickory Tavern; three sisters: Geraldine Morris of Newberry, Sissy Nelson of Clinton and Linda Penland of Laurens; six brothers: Frank Avery, Jimmy Avery, Mac Avery, Bobby Avery, all of Clinton, Dub Avery and Buddy Avery, both of Laurens; nine grandchildren: Jamie Owens, Hailey Owens, Kaleb Avery, Corry Owens, Mandy Calvert, Dale Childress, Amanda Garrett, Charles Harrison and Benjamin Childress; and eleven great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Woody Owensby, Gary Owensby, Terry Taylor, Mike Waters, Bob Taylor and Stacy Hughes. The family is at the home.
