Joseph Earl �Buddy� Turner, 79, of 210 Merriman Street, widower of Vera Davis Turner, died Saturday, August 22, 2009 at Self Regional Medical Center. Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late Abert Olin Turner, Sr. and Ellen Buzhardt Turner. Buddy retired from Greenwood Mills, Plant #5 after forty-nine years of service and was a member of the Quarter Century Club. He was a member of Joppa Lodge # 387 and a member of Westside Baptist Church where he was in the Vernon Lathren Sunday School Class. Surviving are two daughters: Cheryl Culbertson and Judy Harris, both of Greenwood; a son Joseph Wayne Turner and his wife Vickey of Abbeville; a sister Gladys McCrickard of Greenwood; a brother Olin Turner; three grandchildren: Christi Culbertson, Darrin Harris and his wife Angel and Cindy Young and her husband Roger; four great grandchildren: Amber Young, Chance Harris, Austin Young and Haley Harris; and two special friends: Pam McClinton and Ruby Coker. Pallbearers will be Darrin Harris, Roger Young, Hank McCrickard, Al Turner, Russell Fox, Tim Riley, Oscar Jones, Joe Ready, Jimmy Still and Hoyt Lagrone. Honorary pallbearers will be Vernon Lathren, Louis Lathren, Maurice Corley, Donald Crocker, Vic Pruitt, Milton Rochester, Don McKenzie, Bill Wilson, Rufus Davis, Dr. Bryan Ellenberg, G. W. Hall, Mutt Gelsinger, Peanut Ponder, Smiley Bryant, Bud Lollis, Billy Ferguson, Charles Pruitt, Bob Forehand, Hoyt Dorn, Rev. Terry Carter, Tommy Pruitt, Watson Goldman and the members of Vernon Lathren Sunday School Class. The family is at the home of his granddaughter, Cindy Young, 1220 Briarwood Road, Greenwood, SC.
