Obituary

Joseph "Joe Joe" Dwayne Garrett, 34, of Ninety Six, passed away Thursday, December 5, 2024.

Born in Greenwood, he was a son of Steven C. Garrett and Janice Stevenson Nicks (James). Joe was a man of real spirit and genuine character, where he made a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Joe embodied the essence of realism; what you saw was always what you got. He was a kind-hearted soul who always put his family above all else, and his love for his children served as the cornerstone of his life. Known for his respectfulness and willingness to help, Joe was the type of person who would give you the shirt off his back.

He was employed with Fuji and took pride in his work, but it was his passions outside of work that truly defined him. He loved the great outdoors, engaging himself in hunting and fishing, finding joy in the simple pleasures of life. An avid fan of tinkering, Joe was known for assembling model cars and always had a project in the works. And who could forget his fondness for food, particularly paired with an ice-cold Diet Coke?

Above all, Joe cherished the bonds he formed with friends, viewing them as extended family. His down-to-earth demeanor drew people in, and his ability to connect with others will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to call him a friend.

In addition to his father, Steven and mother and stepfather, Janice and James Nicks; he is survived by his companion, Carley Shockley; children, Christopher Lane Garrett, Calvery Elaina Shockley, and Autumn Blair Shockley; sister, Ariel Fitzwater (Josh); brother, Steven Christopher Garrett ( Kimberly); stepsister, Heather Nicks; stepbrother, Michael Nicks; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Billy Joe Garrett; grandmother, Barbara Veal Stevenson; nieces, Cayden Marie Garrett, Katherine Iris Garrett, Rosie Nicks and Madelyn Brewington; nephews, Peden Dwayne Garrett, Braqsten Fitzwater, Kai Fitzwater, Jensen Nicks, Aaron Brewington; and many cousins, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by a grandmother, Iris Satterfield Garrett and a grandfather, William Earl Stevenson.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday at the Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Barnes officiating.

The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 P.M. on Sunday at Harley Funeral Home and Crematory.

With an unwavering strength, he faced life's challenges head on, leaving a legacy of determination and love. As we remember Joe, let us hold on to the laughter, the love, and the courageous spirit he shared with everyone around him. His legacy will remain in the stories we tell and the memories we cherish.
