Karen Brewer Hicks, 66, of Greenwood, wife of David Hicks, passed away Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont.
Born on June 2, 1959 in Barnwell, SC, she was a daughter of the late Ralph Leon Brewer and Billie Davis Brewer. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Her grandson, Sylas, was the light of her life, and she lovingly embraced the title of "Mimi", nurturing him with warmth and affection. Karen expressed her love for her family through dedication and numerous acts of kindness, always striving to provide for them in every way she could.
She dedicated over 40 years of her life to nursing, serving as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the healthcare industry, and spending 25 of those years in the LDPR unit, where her love for babies shone brightly. In her spare time, Karen engaged herself in activities that brought her joy. Her love for gardening transformed her home into a beautiful and loving environment, while her talents in baking, canning, and soap making filled her family's lives with homemade goodness and warmth. She was proud of her "homesteading" lifestyle, and her beloved chickens were a testament to that love. Family trips, especially to the beach, were filled with laughter and cherished memories, where she meticulously documented the adventures, they shared together. Karen's life mantra was, "I've got too much to do."
A member of the South Main Street Baptist Church, Karen found joy in attending Sunday school and rocking babies in the nursery, reflecting her lifelong passion for caring for others.
In addition to her husband, David, she is survived by her children, Adam Hicks, Matthew Hicks, and Karli Myers (Ryan); sisters, Teresa Hitt (David) and Marcia Balchin (Tony); brother, Gary Brewer (Mary) ; grandson, Sylas Myers; nieces, Amy Farmer, Jaime Jones, and Kaitlyn Brewer; nephews, David Balchin and Ethan Kennemore; and best friend, Lynn Meakim.
