Betty "Lavern" Miller Wood, age 87, of Greenwood, widow of Jimmy Franklin Wood, Sr., passed away on December 15, 2024.
Born on August 23, 1937, in Georgia, she was one of twenty-one children to the late James Olin Miller and Pauline Edna Mooney Miller. Lavern was a loving mother, grandmother, devoted sister, and cherished friend. She embraced her role as a homemaker with unwavering dedication, creating a warm and welcoming home for her family and loved ones.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Franklin "Frankie" Wood, Jr.; and a grandson, Dusty Miller.
Surviving are her children, Gwynn Shipman (Walter), Patsy Post and Phil Wood (Kim); sisters, Peggy Rivers, Judy Marsh and Carolyn Langley; seven grandchildren, Christopher J. Simpson (Brooke), Beverly J. Wood, Tonya Maria Cash, Phillip B. Wood (Ashlei), Paul Wood (Katherine), Gianna Wood and Presley Wood; and thirteen great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Earl Kelly and Rev. Johnny Horne officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-8pm.
