Obituary

Leslie Ann Schwartz Woodruff, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend, passed away at her home in Ninety Six, SC on November 18, 2021, surrounded by loved ones.

Leslie was a beautiful bright light with a wonderful, infectious laugh. Born to George Morse Hodsdon, Jr. and Evelyn Hassman Hodsdon at Fort Benning, GA on July 7, 1942, Leslie was the first of two children born into the Hodsdon family.

Leslie had a wonderful childhood living in Lynnfield, MA, and spending time with her family and friends over summers at Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. Later in life, she would become a part of the Schwartz family and spend time with them in Rehoboth Beach, DE. Many good times were had in Rehoboth Beach, enjoying family and friends, crab feasts and playing card games into the night after spending days on the beach.

When Leslie became part of the Woodruff family, upon her marriage to Thomas Woodruff, she was welcomed into their family with open arms. Leslie and Tom were a perfect match and he stood by her side tirelessly and endlessly. They built a beautiful home together, made some wonderful friends along the way and enjoyed cooking, traveling and spending their time together with their animals (too many to list but all very much loved). Leslie also loved playing bridge and their weekly bridge games over chatter and wine. After playing, of course.

In speaking with friends and family after her passing, the one word that was repeatedly used to describe Leslie is elegant. She was a truly elegant lady, which she inherited from her lovely mother Evelyn. And her father George always kept her in check, making sure she did not make time for gentleman suiters in bright colored trousers. There's a story there.
Leslie is predeceased by her parents, father and World War II veteran, George Morse Hodsdon, Jr., mother and model, Eyelyn Hassman Hodsdon. She is survived by her beloved husband, Thomas Albert Woodruff; her two children, son William Theodore Schwartz, III, and daughter Deidre Lauren Martin; her brother and sister-in-law, Douglas Graham and Mary Deborah Hodsdon; nephews Bradford Alexander Hodsdon (Taylor Wagner), Bentley Douglas Hodsdon and Joseph Graham Hodsdon (Catherine Hodsdon); stepsons Graham Thomas Woodruff (Marcus Franklin) and Richard Jeffries Woodruff (Caelyn Casanova); grandniece Megan Elizabeth Hodsdon and grandnephew Kingston Alexander Hodsdon; and her only grandchild, Gavin James Martin, whom she adored and doted on.

Leslie is deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. A formal service will not be held, at her request. A private open house will be held in the coming days for immediate family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, we ask that, if you are able, to make a donation to a local Hospice provider in your area, the American Heart Association or the Greenwood SPCA in her name, as these were all groups that she felt deeply passionate about.
