Louie Milton Lyle, 91, formerly of Georgia Avenue, Greenwood, widower of Virges Stewart Lyle, died Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Hospice House.
Born in Greenwood, he was the son of Erasmus Lakin Lyle and Arah Owens Lyle. Louie was a US Navy veteran having served during WWII and retired from Greenwood Mills Mathews plant where he was in the Quarter Century Club. He was an avid baseball player playing shortstop in the textile leagues. Louie played while in service and also with the Mathews Wildcats and the Cavaliers in Clinton. He also played minor league baseball with the Philadelphia Phillies. Louie was a member of Mathews Lodge #358 and was also a member of Laurel Baptist Church where he was a former deacon and Sunday school teacher.
He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Ernie Ouzts.
Surviving are two children, Andy Lyle and his wife Beth, of Greenwood and Wanda Lyle Ouzts of Bradley; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 4 pm on Monday at Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ted Hinzman and Rev. Jeff Lethco officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends before the service from 3 to 4 pm.
Pallbearers will be David Ouzts, Lyle Ouzts, Drew Lyle, Jacob Lethco, Dr. Lewis Moss and Harry McHugh.
