LTC John Stanton Woodson, 92, of 128 Royal Pine Lane, Savannah Lakes, McCormick, SC, widower of Minnie Mae Shumate Woodson, died Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center, Augusta, GA. Born in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Howard Dilworth and Paulina Writt Woodson. He was a 1937 graduate of Dunbar High School and received his B.S. degree in geography from George Washington University. He served in the US Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict and then served in the Army Reserves, retiring in 1971 as a Lieutenant Colonel. He was one of the US Government�s oceanographers, working in many of the Caribbean sound testing stations. He moved to Savannah Lakes in 1991, where he continued to play tennis, which he was introduced to in 1932 and played until 2005. He also played golf and bridge. Surviving are two sons, Byron Writt Woodson, Sr. of Philadelphia, PA and Jon Stanton Woodson of Baltimore, MD; five grandchildren, Morgan, Marnee, John, Byron and Kellie Woodson.
