Luke Daniel Smyth, 37, of Bluffton, died Friday, September 8, 2017 at the Wm. Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center, Columbia, during the mandatory evacuation of Hurricane Irma.
Born in Columbia, he was a son of the Rev. Daniel Smyth (Kay) of Greenwood and Fran Smyth of Bluffton. Luke was a graduate of Greenwood High School and was a disabled US Navy veteran, having served during the Iraq War. He was a former member of St. Mark United Methodist Church.
Surviving in addition to his father and stepmother of Greenwood and his mother, who was his caretaker in Bluffton; are his brother, Nathan Ray Smyth of Charleston and two stepsisters, Tammy B. Marshall of Greenwood and Jennifer B. Ross of Chapin; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Celebration of Life service, with military rites, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cambridge United Methodist Church, 201 Kitson Street, Ninety Six, with the Rev. Valerie Mireb officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
