Luther Cleveland �Humpy� Starnes, Sr., 71, of 379 Scurry Church Road, Chappells, widower of Susie Brown Starnes, died Friday, January 28, 2011 at his home. Born in Laurens County, he was a son of the late Martin Luther Starnes and Pearl Miller Starnes Woody. He was formerly employed by Greenwood Mills, Sloan Plant and retired from Greenwood Mop and Broom. He was a member of Sandridge Baptist Church. Surviving are three daughters, Frances Skelton of Chappells, Nancy Skelton of Ninety Six and Annie Jones of Hodges; two sons, Luther Starnes, Jr. of North Carolina and Mack Starnes of Ninety Six; sisters, Ellie Mae Woody of Hickory Tavern, Shirley Brubaker of Cross Hill, Polly Phillips of Laurens, Sarah Dixon of Clinton and Martha Davenport of Laurens; two brothers, Henry Starnes of Clinton and Martin Starnes of Mountville; 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his redneck angel, Shane Jones, Jr.
