Memories shared from her daughters:
Our mother was a very caring, compassionate person! Her real name was Mabel Spach, but everyone referred to her as "Jenny". She provided daycare for years to many of Crystal Michigan's working families, until she decided to go to the Community College to get a degree as a Correction Officer. She worked in the prison system in Ionia and then Carson City, until retirement. She was an excellent seamstress, busy sewing clothes for the family and doing alterations for others as needed. She taught my sister and I how to read a pattern and sew, and assisted with 4-H. She was very active in the Crystal Congregational Church, Crystal, MI, and taught Sunday School. She would get all of us kids dressed and off we would go to Sunday School and church. There was always a big family Sunday dinner following. Our mother showed my sister and I how to cook. We were never able to cook like mom. Gardening and canning were a must years ago. My mother and grandmother had a huge garden. They would can all the vegetables and fruits down in grandma's basement. We would be taken along and given information on how to can. Going to pick blueberries was a fun event! I believe as children we ate more than we picked. She really loved working in her flowers and the yard. She continued to enjoy this activity until her death. She loved going camping and snowmobiling with her husband, sister-in-law and husband, as well as their other dear friends. One of her pleasures was going to Bass Lake listening to a live band and dancing with our father! After moving to Greenwood, SC; her grandson Luke and daughter Brenda, would take her places to listen to music to bring back some of those cherished memories. Our main mode of transportation was the pontoon, as she loved going for boat rides. She loved attending the Senior Program in Greenwood, SC. She would be up by 6 A.M. to catch the bus by 7:30 A.M. The tears continue to come as we grieve for our mother's passing, but we just have to understand that she is in a better place, with the Lord above, with my father and brothers. We LOVE you mom and miss you so much, but in time we will all be together again! Rest in peace!
A celebration of life will be held in Crystal, Michigan at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont, 408 West Alexander Ave. Greenwood, SC 29646.
