Mary Elizabeth McGonnell of 1110 Marshall Road, Greenwood, SC, widow of Colonel Owen J. McGonnell, died Monday, December 7, 2009. Born in Spartanburg, SC on August 28, 1922, she was a daughter of William R. and Ruth C. Livingston. She is survived by a son, Owen J. McGonnell of Round Rock, TX and a daughter, Beth Fish of Oklahoma City, OK; a brother, Colonel A. Crosby Livingston, Sr. and a sister, Billie L. Eubanks, both of Columbia; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Mrs. McGonnel had resided in Greenwood since 1972 when Colonel McGonnell retired from the Air Force. Always seeking a way to help others, Mrs. Gonnell was active as an Air Force wife and served each community in which they lived by volunteering. She and Colonel McGonnell delighted in entertaining in their home and did so frequently. She likewise embraced the Greenwood community and was a volunteer at Self Regional Healthcare Center for many years. She was also an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Greenwood Country Club, the Ladies� Golf Association, a former member of the Greenwood Woman�s Club and Unit One Garden Club. The family would like to thank the staff of Wesley Commons for the loving care and compassion shown to Mrs. McGonnell during her time there.
