Mary Elizabeth �Libby� Cotney Cohen, 84, of 129 Belle Rive Drive, wife of Alvin M. Cohen, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Hospice House. Born in Prosperity, SC, she was the daughter of the late James Napoleon Cotney and Nannie Florence Stockman Cotney. Libby was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church where she was responsible for visiting the shut-ins, delivering tape ministry copies of Sunday sermons and was a devoted member of the Wesleyan Sunday school class. She was also in the Mattie Hazel Circle, a member of the United Methodist Women and a recipient of the Special Missions Recognition from UMW. She was a former member of the Ninety Six Lions Club. She was preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters from the Newberry and Prosperity area. Surviving in addition to her husband of the home are three daughters, Vicki (Jimmy) Powell of Anderson, Susan (Tim) Burlew of Milford, OH and Sharon (Roger) Rickabaugh of Smyrna, TN; a brother, J. D. Cotney of Newberry; five grandchildren, Jennifer Powell, Nicholas Powell, Jacob Burlew, Brittany Rickabaugh and Jordan Rickabaugh; and many nieces and nephews from Newberry, Prosperity and surrounding counties. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the St. Paul United Methodist Church Building Fund, 301 Cambridge Street North, Ninety Six, SC 29666 or to Hospice House, 408 West Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646. The family is at the home.
