Obituary

Mary Gentry Fair, 82, of Greenwood, widow of Larry Loren Fair, passed away peacefully at her home on March 6, 2026.

Born on September 19, 1943, in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late James Robert Gentry and Ollie Mae Taylor Gentry. Mary dedicated much of her life to the profession of teaching, making a profound impact on the lives of countless students. She served as a special education teacher with Greenwood District 50 for over 15 years before retiring. Her commitment to her students and their families showcased her selfless, giving spirit and her genuine love for nurturing the potential in others. Her compassion extended well beyond the classroom. Mary was cherished as a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, embodying the values of love and support that resonated within her family. She was a member of New Life Baptist Church where she helped with the Women's Mission Union.

She is survived by her two daughters, Nancy Ann Doerflein and Lori Lodge; grandchildren, Dillon Doerflein (Alyssa) and Kaleb Lodge (Jamie); great-grandchildren, Emmett, Emory Ann, Mia Doerflein, and Emerson Gunter; sisters, Betty Page (Frank) and Nancy Erwin (Terry); brothers, Ray Gentry (Pam) and Robbie Gentry (Janice); and numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Doris Medlock, and her brothers, James Gentry and Paul Gentry.

The family will receive friends at Harley Funeral Home on Friday from 5:00 - 7:00 pm.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at New Life Baptist Church with the Rev. Lee Bates and Rev. Frank Page officiating.
