Mary Eleanor Garrett Griffin, 97, widow of Col. James Carlisle Griffin, died Wednesday, May 20, 2015. Born in Greenwood, SC, she was a daughter of the late James T. and Winnifred Lowe Garrett. She was a graduate of Lander College, was a member of the Greenwood Country Club and was of the Baptist faith. Mary was always active, enjoying tennis, swimming and leading aerobic classes into her mid-60s. She always loved Edisto Beach and never missed the opportunity to dance or play bridge. In addition to her husband, parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Susan McManus and Joshua Christopher Griffin. Surviving are four children, James C. Griffin, Jr. (Maggie) of Delano, TN, Mary Beth Hardy of Harrisburg, NC, Theodore V. Griffin (Nancy) of Sherrills Ford, NC and Winnifred Ann Griffin of Camden, SC; grandchildren, Jessica Ann Griffin of Santa Fe, NM, Travis Griffin (Alisha) of Macon, GA, Gene Hardy (Leslie) of Charlotte, NC, David Hardy (Brittany) of Columbia, SC, Vic Griffin and Leah Griffin, who are both away at college; great grandchildren, Canon Hardy and Tessa Hardy, both of Charlotte and Blaze Frost of Santa Fe.
