Mary Elizabeth Sims, 82, of Waterloo, widow of Barry Keith Sims, passed away on May 19, 2026.

Born on August 5, 1943, in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late James and Mary Boyd Thompson.

Mary devoted much of her life to working at Greenwood Mills as a spinner. When she wasn’t working, she was always busy cooking, cleaning, or tending to her yard, finding joy in making her home a welcoming and beautiful place. She was truly the kindest lady you could ever meet, known for her warm heart and endless care for those around her. Her love extended deeply to her family, especially her children and grandchildren, whom she cherished dearly. She loved boating on Lake Greenwood, a pastime that brought her peace and happiness. Above all, Mary took great care of everyone, always putting the needs of her loved ones before her own. Her memory will remain forever in the hearts of her family and everyone who had the joy of knowing her.

Mary is survived by daughters, Sonya Sims and Teresa Sims; grandchildren, Brandon Bohler, Joshua Bohler, Elizabeth Haygood, Laura Nickles, Kimberly Garvin, and Brentley Vazquez; and numerous great grandchildren.

Along with her beloved husband and parents, she is preceded in death by sons, Ricky Sims and Kenny Sims; sister, Patsy Turner; and brothers, David Ray Thompson and Jimmy Thompson

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at 1:00 pm in the Harley Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends before the service from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.
