Matthew M. Thigpen, Jr., 86, of 3102 Highway 25 South, husband of Myrtice Hughes Thigpen, died Sunday, January 6, 2013 at Hospice House. Born in Avera, GA, he was a son of the late Marvin M. and Ora Dye Thigpen. He was retired from Greenwood Mills and was a US Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Abney Memorial Baptist Church and the Baraca Sunday School Class. Surviving is his wife of the home; a son, Paul Michael Thigpen (Sheila); three daughters, Wanda Thigpen Alexander (Steve), Sharon Thigpen Lagrone (Mark) and Sheila Thigpen Riddle (Mark); grandchildren, Matthew Thigpen (Lauren), Brad Alexander (Tara), Amanda Werts (Jason), Lauren Fortner (Brian), Justin Lagrone, Morgan Riddle, Amber Lagrone and Hunter Riddle; and great grandchildren, Addison Werts, Emily Thigpen, Will Alexander, Peyton Werts and Colby Fortner. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
