Mattie Lou Strickland, 87, formerly of Ninety Six, passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at NHC of Clinton.
Born on March 1, 1939 in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Boyd Strickland and Helen Faulkner Strickland. She spent her career as a weaver at Greenwood Mills Sloan Plant until retirement.
Mattie Lou had an adventurous spirit and found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved fishing, an activity that brought her peace and tranquility, and she was a devoted fan of WWE wrestling and the Atlanta Braves, watching them every chance she could get.
Her faith was an integral part of her life, and she was a proud member of the Ninety Six Church of God. There, she shared her love for music by playing the accordion, a gift that brought joy to many during services and gatherings.
Mattie Lou is survived by her brother, James Michael "Mike" Strickland; niece and nephews, including, Pamela Metts and Tim Wesson, who where her caregivers.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Myrtle Louise Strickland Wesson and a brother, Reginald Strickland. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Joshua Strickland officiating.
