Merle Clifton Speir, 90, of Greenwood, widower of Ina Jean Hodges Speir, passed away Monday, October 16, 2023 at his home.

Born in Chelsea, OK, he was a son of the late William Howard Speir and Lillie Most Speir. He was a veteran of the US Air Force serving from 1956 – 1960 and retired from Duke Energy. Merle enjoyed his retirement to the fullest. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He was a member of Greenwood Church of Christ.

He is survived by his children, Cynthia S. Gary (Keith), Susan S. Kidd (Chris), Stephen Merle Speir, all of Greenwood, and Carroll Clifton Speir of Pleasant Garden, NC; sister, Darlene Gunter of Potosi, WI; brothers, Ronald Speir (Barbara) of Springfield, MO and Harold Speir of Neosho, MO; grandchildren, Leslie D. Summey and Rebekah Field (Trent), both of Greenwood; and great grandchildren, Sarahlena Field and Jameson Field.

Merle was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jean of 38 years and two brothers, Kenneth Speir and Norman Speir.

Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday at the Harley Funeral Home chapel with Minister David Daily officiating. Burial will follow at Oakbrook Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be his nephews.

The family will receive friends before the service from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
