Obituary

Merle A. Swindler, 81, husband of Loleta Beard Swindler, died Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at Self Regional Medical Center. Born in Newberry, he was a son of the late Oscar Herbert and Velma Stewart Swindler. He was retired from the US Navy, where he served during World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War and also retired as an instructor with Piedmont Technical College. He was a member of the D.A.V., the F.R.A. and Lodge #91 A.F.M. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Greenwood. Surviving is his wife of the home; three daughters, Mary Kay Ward and her husband, Tony, of Greenwood, Barbara May Crowe and her husband, Berry, of Anniston, AL and Carol Ann Jackson of Kansas City, KS; a sister, Connie S. Pridmore of Greenwood; a brother, Thomas W. Swindler of Charleston; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Swindler and James Swindler.
