Michael "Mike" L. Velez, 57, of Greenwood, husband of Ginny Corley Velez, passed away Friday, March 21, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Born on August 2, 1967, in Indianapolis, Indiana, he was a son of the late Agustin and Celia Bracero Velez. Mike was the proud owner of Carolina Fireside, dedicated to providing exceptional service in the gas log industry. He was a devoted husband, a loving father to his daughters and a doting grandfather, always seeking to create memorable experiences filled with love and laughter and cherishing every moment spent with his family. Mike was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan, proudly supporting his team, embodying the spirit of camaraderie and passion that sports can bring. His deep faith as a devout Christian led him to become a cherished member of West Side Baptist Church. There, he shared his love for music by playing the drums in the praise band and was known to be present whenever the doors were open, offering his support to his church family.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his daughters, Amber Fuller and Gussie Velez; grandson, Lucas Fuller; sister, Elizabeth Cunningham; brothers, Eddie Velez and Gus Velez; son-in-law, Hamilton Fuller; and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins.
Mike's life will be celebrated with a memorial service at 2 pm on Thursday at West Side Baptist Church with Rev. Kyle Richter officiating. The family will receive friends before the service from 1-2pm.
