Charles Michael "Mike" Waters, 53, of Greenwood, SC, entered through heaven's gates on Friday, January 10, 2025.
Born on October 21, 1971, at Self Memorial Hospital to the late Angela Bell Dorn and Dennis Waters (Rynda). Mike was a beloved son, husband, father, brother, and friend. His passing leaves an unfillable void in the hearts of those who knew him, especially his family and the many individuals whose lives he touched through his selflessness, volunteer work, and deep passion for the outdoors.
Mike's love for the outdoors was as boundless as his generosity. Mike was a dedicated volunteer with the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) for more than 25 years. He proudly served on the local Neil Gobbler Cost Chapter and the State Board of Directors, working tirelessly to ensure future generations could experience the joy he found in nature. Mike's passion for the outdoors wasn't just about hunting for him; it was about sharing those experiences with others, especially children and those with disabilities. He dedicated countless hours to hosting JAKES events, guiding deer and turkey hunts, and organizing fishing events at his family farm for the Burton Center and various children's homes. In addition to his commitment to conservation, Mike devoted much of his life to serving his community. He was a former Fire Chief for the Promised Land and Callison Fire Departments.
He was predeceased by his grandparents, Charles & Willa Lee Waters, and Jones & Ruby Bell.
He is survived by his loving wife, Christie Waters; his children, Michael Waters Jr. (Maddie), Katelyn Waters, Dakota Waters, and Mason Gaines; his cherished grandson, Cole Waters, and furry companion, Faith (Lil Bit). He is also survived by his sister, Megan Kennemore (Matt), along with nephews Cruze Kennemore, Wylder Kennemore and niece Chloe Kennemore. Mike's friends, too, were a vital part of his life. He shared a special bond with his close friends, Jamie Owens and Mike Myers, who were like brothers to him.
A celebration of Mike's life will be held at 2pm on Thursday at Ninety Six Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Brian Brock officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Michael Waters, Jamie Owens, Mike Myers, Nick Meredith, Mike Hoffstatter and Tony Waters.
Honorary escort will be the SC NWTF State Board.
The family will receive friends at Harley Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5-7pm.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Mike's honor to the National Cancer Institute for Pancreatic Cancer
