Obituary

Mildred Eubanks, Major, U S Army Nurse Corps (Retired) died Monday, January 4, 2010 at Self Regional Medical Center. She was born in Bennettsville, SC to the late Kate McKellar Eubanks and Joseph Stanhope Eubanks. At an early age her family moved to Ellenton, Aiken County, SC where she grew up and graduated from high school. She obtained her nursing degree from State Hospital in Columbia and Roper Hospital in Charleston, SC. Mildred was recruited for the Army Nurse Corps near the beginning of WWII. After 25 years in service in many places worldwide and hospital ships, she retired from Walter Reed Army Medical Center and moved back to New Ellenton where she cared for her mother and an elderly aunt for their remaining years. In 1990 she moved to Wesley Commons Retirement Center in Greenwood, SC. She was a very devout person and was an active member of Tranquil United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Brockwell-Clark Sunday School Class and was in the Tranquilights Senior Group. Survivors include her twin sister, Martha E. Havard of Mobile, AL; a brother, Thomas F. Eubanks, Sr. and his wife, Jewell of Fayetteville, GA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be especially missed by a nephew, Joe Eubanks and his family. Honorary escorts will be the members of Brockwell-Clark Sunday School Class.
